The purpose of this blog is to provide analytical commentary on formal and informal labour organisations and their attempts to resist ever more brutal forms of exploitation in today’s neo-liberal, global capitalism.

Open Forum on the Future of Further and Higher Education

The local University and College Union (UCU) committee of Nottingham University will hold an Open Forum of Further and Higher Education institutions in the wider area of Nottingham. The Forum will take place in the room Portland C11, University Park, the main campus of the University of Nottingham, on Wednesday, 26 January 2011 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The purpose of this event is twofold. First, the wider implications of cut-backs to education in the UK are discussed. This will be faciliated by a short input by Dr. Sara Motta from the School of Politics and International Relations/University of Nottingham. Second, trade union representatives from local universities and colleges of further education as well as student groups will provide brief three to five minutes inputs about the specific challenges they face in their particular institution as well as reflect on possible joint strategies at the local and regional level. Ideally this will result in a broader network with the objective to ensure that resistance activities are co-ordinated across further and higher education institutions across the region.

The Forum is open to all students and members of staff.
